Hotels

The Local Conference Committee has chosen the Golden Jewel Hotel as the conference hotel. While we will not be having meetings in the hotel, transportation to/from NIOF and to field trips will be centered at this hotel. You will need to negotiate transportation to/from the Golden Jewel to take conference transportation. Cost is approximately $160 USD with breakfast included.

The Sheraton Montazah Hotel is around $75 USD per night and is about a 15-minute drive up the coast. There are numerous hotels up and down the coastline that have variable costs.

NIOF will also provide accommodations with breakfast and lunch included depending on interest.

You may reserve your room directly or let NIOF know that you are coming and NIOF will make the arrangements.

Airport

The airport in Alexandria, Egypt is Borg El Arab International Airport.

Taxis will take you to and from the airport and are very inexpensive. The drive to the Golden Jewel Hotel is about 50 minutes. Alexandria also has a public tram and bus system.

Getting around town

Taxis, Uber & Careem: Taxis are widely available in Alexandria and are a convenient option for direct travel to specific locations. For a more structured fare and a language barrier-free experience, you can opt for ride-hailing services like Uber and Careem, which are operational in Alexandria.

Informal Microbuses: While Alexandria has a formal public bus system, informal microbuses are also available. These might be a bit challenging to navigate for travelers unfamiliar with the local routes and system. 12 seater mini vans hurtle up and down the cornice day and night beeping their horns. The route is simple for most, straight on from one end of the strip to the other! Simply hail one as it goes past and hop on when it slows down handing 1LE to the driver or whoever is seated up front to pass on. Once you’ve travelled as far as you would like to go yell ‘Men fadlack bass hena’ meaning ‘Please stop here' and jump off. Tourists rarely travel in this way so it’s often of some curious amusement to the locals.
